SCOUT RALLY AT SCORTON
Carrying their own rations and equipment for the week-end, and using cycles for transport, 250 Scouts from Preston, Lancaster, Blackpool, Fleetwood, and Garstang associations attended a Boy Scout rally at Scorton on Saturday and yesterday.
District Commissioner Thomas of Blackpool, conducted a camp fire concert in the Scorton Village on Saturday evening. Local residents were included in the crowded audience.
The Scouts attended morning service at the Scorton Parish Church yesterday. The County Commissioner (Alderman T. W. Helme of Lancaster) and Major Withers (Garstang District Commissioner and county Boys’ Club organiser) were present. Various displays were given in the afternoon. District Commissioner (sic) A. Sharpe, of Lancaster, was in charge of the proceedings, which concluded with a Scout “quiz.

Cycle Rally Camp
A cycle rally camp attracted Sea, Air and Boy Scouts from Preston, Lancaster, Morecambe, Blackpool and Fleetwood to Scorton, near Garstang, at the week-end.
In the Village Hall on Saturday evening they held a campfire concert organised by District Commissioner Thomas of Blackpool.
Yesterday morning they were inspected by County Alderman T. W. Helme, County Commissioner, before attending the service at the Parish Church. During the service tribute wad paid to Scoutmaster Alan Sharpe, who died shortly after instituting the rally last year.
An impromptu sports meeting was held at Clifton Farm in the afternoon. The Scouts cycled home in the evening.
The camp was organised by District Commissioner Dodds Drummond, of the Lancaster Association.

BISHOP VISITS SCOUTS’ RALLY
About 300 Scouts from Preston, Blackpool, Lancaster, Morecambe, and Fleetwood attended the third annual Scout cycle rally at Scorton, near Garstang, on Saturday and yesterday. The Bishop of Blackburn (Dr. W. M. Askwith) and Scorton villagers attended a camp fire concert, compered by Mr. T. A. Thomas (Blackpool), at which “thanks badges” were given by by Lancaster and Blackpool to the Rev. Edwin Jackson (Vicar of Scorton) and Mr. R. Thompson *, of Clifton’s Farm, Scorton, for their services to the movement.
The Bishop preached the sermon at yesterday’s church parade which was conducted by the vicar and attended by Messrs. J. K. Booth (chairman, Blackpool Association), R. E. Wright (assistant District Commissioner, Lancaster), and Major B. H. Withers (D.C. Garstang).
Dr. Askwith said the nation needed men with the courage to stand by their convictions and the ability to think for themselves. Sports were called off through rain.
Mr. J. Dodds Drummond, acting secretary of the Association and district Commissioner for South Lonsdale, was in charge of the rally.
