Guilds of Old Scouts increasing
30 members of the 4th Lancaster (Wesley) BP guild of Old Scouts met at Sulyard Street for the annual reunion and business meeting on Saturday evening.
Mr. R. E. Wright presided and the Rev. Robertson Ballard expressed the hope that the Guilders would have a pleasant time, but regretted he could not stay to join the company. Group Scoutmaster W. Tyson attended.
Supper was served by the ladies committee associated with the guild (Mesdames Porter, Starling, Tyson, Birchall and Gregson) and Mrs. Ballard.
REPORTS AND ELECTIONS
The Secretary reported that since the inaugural function the Guild had met to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Group, and two summer outings to Applehouse Den had taken place. Further enrolment of new members would be welcome. The treasurer’s report showed a balance in hand of £3. 16 s. 6d .
Mr. R. E Wright did not seek re-election as president and he was succeeded by Mr. Reg Riley. The other officers were re-elected, namely Messrs. C Moffatt (secretary), J. Bishop (treasurer), H. Riley, W. Wilson and F. Bailey (general committee).
PICTORIAL RECORD
Some albums of the former County Commissioner (the late Ald. T. W. Helme) containing photographs of many past local scouting events and international gatherings brought by Mr. R. E. Wright, provided many interesting reminiscences.
It will probably interest Guilders to know that 20 of the 48 Scout countries now have old scout organisations and the total membership in the United Kingdom since the inception of the Guild in 1948 numbers 29,000.
JAMBOREE IN AUSTRIA
Many scouts are becoming jamboree-conscious at the news that the seventh international gathering is due to take place in Austria next August. The North West Lancashire County has been allocated 40 Scout and 4 Scouter places. Every Scout chosen must be a first class badge holder. The minimum age limit is 14 and the participants must not be over 17½ years on August 1st.
