5th Morecambe’s Cub Pack Rivals Seniors in Keenness
ON page six is a special illustrated article of the 5th Morecambe Troop of Scouts. Mention was omitted of the excellent work done by the constituent Wolf Cub Pack, whose members are just as keen and efficient as their elder brothers.
The cub pack attached to the 5th Morecambe Troop of Scouts are a keen ambitious and tireless crew. Their Akela is Miss Gray, District Cubmaster, and it is to her that a large percentage of the praise for such a grand pack must go. The Cubs were formed along with the scouts when the 12th (author’s note: St. John’s 1942) was disbanded, and their first meeting was in June 1944 with an attendance of 28. Like their elder brothers they have entered cubs competitions and have managed to carry off the Totem Pole and the District Sports trophy. Many boys have qualified from the cub pack to the Troop Patrols and other lads who were in the pack for many years are scattered as far and wide as South Africa, Canada, and Australia. Until last year Miss Gray was assisted by Miss Doreen Granwell, but the present Assistant Cubmaster is Miss Sheila Barrott.
Behind the working of the Scouts and Cubs is the Parents Committee, which Scoutmaster Colwill claims to be the best ever. Under the chairmanship of Mr. F. Woods they have raised funds by various ways, whist drives, socials, competitions etc., to keep the troop funds in a healthy state. Secretary is Mrs. M. E. Walker, treasurer, Mrs. Fox and committee Mrs. Colwill senior, Mrs. Colwill junior, Mrs. Rosinger, Mrs. Lea, Mrs. Tassart, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Colhurst, Mr. Woods, Mr. Stamper, Mrs. Miller.
