SCOUT’S PROMOTION.
Mr. Hector Todd has been appointed Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts) to the Lancaster and District (South Lonsdale) Association. He joins the two other administrators, ADC’s R. E. Wright and J. W. Ellwood.
Mr. Todd, a member of the Lancaster Warrants Committee, is no stranger to Scouting for he received his early training with the 1st Lancaster Troop in the pioneering days of 1909-1914.

ONE OF Lancaster’s first Scouts who later became their District Commissioner, Mr Hector Todd died in the Royal Lancaster Infirmary last Thursday after a short illness. He was 77.
Mr Todd, who lived in West Street, Lancaster, joined the 4th Lancaster Scout Troop in 1909.
He was appointed District Commissioner in 1948 and served for 13 years during which time the Littledale camp site was acquired. He ran the Cub Pack at Bleasdale House Special School, Silverdale, for several years and was awarded the Scout Medal of Merit for his distinguished services.
He was a Freeman of Lancaster and had been a Freemason for over 50 years. He was a Past Provincial Grand Warden of the Lune Lodge and a former chairman of the Masonic Hall.
He spent most of his working life as an insurance agent with the Royal Liver Friendly Society but later became the RAC’s senior port officer at Heysham Harbour. He retired in 1972.
Each Christmas for the past 18 years he had accompanied the nurses’ carol singing on his violin at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Mr Todd leaves his wife.
A funeral service at St Paul’s Church, Scotforth, was followed by cremation at Lancaster on Tuesday
