ANNUAL RALLY AT NETHER KELLET.
Sir James Travis-Clegg Presents Prizes.
THE fourth annual Sports and Camp fire of the Lancaster and District B.P. Boy Scouts Association, took place at Nether Kellet, on Saturday, under the auspices of the 1st Kellet company.
There was a splendid attendance of Scouts and Girl Guides from Lancaster, Lunesdale, Kirkby Lonsdale, Carnforth, Silverdale, Bolton le Sands, and Garstang.
Mr P. S. Senior, the master at Nether Kellet, must have been gratified with the continued success of his enterprise. Among many well-known people present were Sir James T, Travis-Clegg, and Alderman T. W. Helme, (District Commissioner).
DEEDS NOT WORDS.
Sir James expressed pleasure at being present, and spoke of the useful purpose which Scouts and Guides filled in fitting themselves early in life for work in social service for the nation in mature years.
Deeds, not words, was their motto, he said, and he thus excused himself from making a long speech. He could not help thinking that if older people would cultivate the same team spirit and loyalty shown that afternoon by Scouts and Guides, it would be a good thing for the world. The lessons of self-reliance with the elimination of selfishness, were doing nothing but good. He was proud of the Lancaster and District Boy Scouts and Guides Associations, and those responsible for their promotion. (Applause.)
Alderman Helme said they greatly appreciated the kindness of Sir James Travis-Clegg in sparing time to be amongst them, and they esteemed it a great privilege
Mr P. S. Senior, later, expressed the thanks of all concerned to their distinguished guest
The afternoon and evening were fully taken up with a grand programme of sports and entertainment.
FRIENDS’ SCHOOL DISPLAY
A special feature was a splendid display by the 20th Lancaster Scouts (Friends’ School) of physical training. The master, Mr H. N. Ellis, ASM, took his boys through a strenuous and interesting performance in which the signs of muscular development were clearly shown. In the finale, Mr Ellis himself took part, and gave further demonstration showing the results of regular physical exercise
Pillow fighting on the greasy pole caused great amusement and the prevailing good nature of the contestants added interest to the occasion.
In the shades of evening, a camp fire was Iit in the old quarry where Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Cubs, and Brownies etc. “gathered round” for community singing.
PRIZE WINNERS
Prizes were distributed by Sir James Travis-Clegg, The Challenge Shield was won for the second time by Kirkby Lonsdale Cubs, 17 points. Kirkby Lonsdale Scouts, (16 points), were second; 21st Lancaster Scouts (10), 3rd. Other awards were:-
Group Scouts and Cubs: 1 Kirkby Lonsdale, 33; 21st Lancaster Scouts, 10; 3 1st Bolton Le Sands. 9.
