Lancaster Guardian 26 May 1939:
SCOUTING NOTES
THE SEA SCOUTS.
During the past few weeks, Lancaster Sea Scouts have been busy making “the Ailsa”, ready for the summer season. Painting the hull and overhauling the gear has kept the Scouts occupied, with the result that the boat is now in first class condition. “The Ailsa” is a twenty feet salmon boat complete with sails, and makes a pleasing picture under full sail.
Weekend activity by the 21st Lancaster Sea Scouts included a visit to the “Esperance” on Lake Windermere, when Gordon Wilkinson proved himself to be an able seaman, and the appearance of “the Ailsa” in the Lune Sailing Club’s race when she finished third – a creditable performance against more experienced opponents.
NATIONAL SERVICE.
There was a call the other week for Senior Scouts to enrol as messengers for National Service. Many have done so, but there is room for more. For those between the ages of 12 and 14, there is an appeal from District Scoutmaster A. D. Sharpe, for 100 volunteers to come forward to act in guiding refugees to their quarters.
