Becoming a full member of Lonsdale Explorers is a simple five step process:
1. Find your preferred Explorer Scout Unit. This might be based on your evening availability, your location, where your friends are, or if you just fancy a change. If you are not sure then just contact the Explorer Scout Leader and go along and see what they do. Where ever you choose you can be sure of a very warm welcome – so you have nothing to lose giving Explorers a try.
2. Once you have decided to join Explorers then your Unit Leader will register you with Lonsdale District Scouts.
3. Once registered by the Unit Leader, you can get an online account (OSM) – a link will be sent to Parents.
4. Purchase an Explorer Shirt.
5. Get Invested into Lonsdale Explorers and be issued your Necker, District badge, County badge, Membership award and name tape.
3. Online Account (OSM)
We use Online Scout Manager (OSM) for managing our member records and for communicating with parents and explorers. The data on OSM will be shared by leaders in the group and may be shared with other leaders in the District and County and Scouting where needed for activities or events.
Once registered you (Parents & Explorers) will receive invitations to Explorer meetings and regular updates.
4. Purchasing an Explorer Shirt
An Explorer Shirt is part of the Explorer Scout Uniform and is often needed at events and when out in public. The Lonsdale District Scout Shop is located in Lancaster town centre, at:
3 Moor St, Lancaster LA1 1PR.
Opening times are: Saturday 10:30 – 12:30.
Purchasing from this shop helps fund Lonsdale District, as some of the money from the sale goes directly back to District, rather than into a National fund. The Lonsdale District Scout Shop also allows you to try the shirts on so you can ensure it fits. However, if you are struggling to get to the store, you can purchase an Explorer uniform shirt from the Official Scout Website.
Being Invested
Once you have completed the previous steps, you are eligible to be invested into Lonsdale Explorers. This can be at a standard Unit meeting, however sometimes leaders like to invest members at events such as group camps etc. If you think you are eligible to be invested, your Unit Leader should be able to tell you.
As part of the Investiture Explorers will make their “Promise” and get their official Necker & badges for your Explorer shirt.
Badges need to be in specific places on the Explorer shirt.
