Sea Scouts camp
THE grounds of Hammersbank on Windermere provided by Earl Peel for the use of camps for boys of Lancashire and Cheshire was the site for the 5th Lancaster Sea Scouts annual camp last week.
Major Bramwell Withers, former commissioner of Scouts in the Sudan, and now the Secretary of the Lancashire and Cheshire Association of Boys Clubs, inspected the boys and the camp site on the Monday.
Later he gave an excellent report and then presented R. Brady with his patrol stripe.
Wednesday was parents day and a large number of them came and were very impressed with the camp and the arrangements.
On Thursday, a motor boat was hired and the boys toured the lake and visited Wray Castle and the Ambleside Jamboree, where they met a party of German Scouts.
A cricket match between the Lancaster troop and a Liverpool boys club ended in a draw. The rest of the week was spent swimming and boating on the lake.
At a camp fire on Friday evening, at which many vistors from the district were present, Major Withers presented the Curfew (sic) Patrol with the shield its members won for being the best patrol.
