BOY SCOUTS’ FUND

Dear Sir, – May I be allowed the
hospitality of your columns to express
to the public of Lancaster the thanks
of the Boy Scouts Association for their
response to the house-to-house collec-
tion we made recently, and to state
the amount collected was £51 6s. 3d.
Scouts themselves were not allowed to
assist, so that we had to rely on the
voluntary services of Scouters and
friends, to whom we are greatly in-
debted. We are particulaly encouraged
by the kindly reception we recieved and
the appreciation expressed of Lord Baden-
Powell in creating so vast an organisa-
tion, and the work done locally. We
did not call on every house, as some
700 or more would receive the appeal
which was published two months ago,
and the results of which are published
from time to time. I have recently
received a letter from Lady Baden-
Powell pointing out that the last lap
is always the most difficult, and we are
still a long way off our objective of
£500,000 to claim Lord Nuffield’s magni-
ficent promise of £50,000.

Our difficulty is to remind those who
wish to help (without being a nuisance
to others) that the appeal is open till
July 31st.

Any help will be gratefully received
and faithfully applied. – Yours truly,

THOS. W. HELME
