Son of Charles Emmanuel and Elizabeth Gill nee Naylor, of 23, St. George’s Quay, Lancaster.
Harold was born in Warrington in 1899.
In 1911 the family was living at 18 St George’s Quay, Lancaster.
According to the Scout Association WW1 Roll of Honour Harold was formerly a Scout with the 4th Lancaster Wesley Troop at Lancaster.

Pte. HAROLD GILL (19), eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John (sic) Gill, 23 St. George’s Quay, is reported killed on Sept. 22nd. A Lancaster comrade, Pte. Fisher, sends the sad tidings, and adds that he has lost one of his best pals, who was well liked in the company. A former scholar of St. Mary’s School, he afterwards worked at St George’s warehouse, and later at a national factory. He joined up in April last year on his 18th birthday, and had four days’ leave last Nov. He had been at the front six months. Before joining the forces he was an active scout in the 4th (Wesley) Troop, and acted as messenger at Bowerham Barracks for some time. He is the 30th member of the Centenary Brotherhood to fall.
