BOY SCOUTS.
Through the kindness of Mr. Adams* of Melling Hall, the Melling Troop were able to visit the Lancaster Pageant on Monday. Mr. Adams also provided them with tea. They were accompanied by S.M. T. Sedgwick, Mr. W. Vockins and Mr. W. Watson, two members of the National Reserve who had been camping with the boys during the last week. The Hornby Troop, in charge of S.M. J. Richards are camping out at Blackpool this week.

William Vockins attested for the 2nd Battalion Border Regiment No. 7482 at Kendal on 5 February 1901. He saw service in South Africa 16 March 1901 – 18 June 1902 and was entitled to the South Africa medal with clasps for Cape Colony and Orange Free State.

BOY SCOUTS.
On the invitation of Mr. And Miss. Peel, the Crow Trees, the Melling Troop of Boy Scouts gave an exhibition of flag signalling, fire lighting and bugling at Crow Trees on Friday. They were inspected by the Rev. W.H.G. Twining of the HQ staff, London, who in an address urged them not to forget the 3 ‘P’s Punctuality, Perseverance and Promptness. Mr. Twining also gave a short address to the Hornby Scouts on Sunday morning after which the Hornby and Melling Troops, in charge of their respective Scoutmasters, attended service at the Hornby Parish Church, the sermon being preached by the Rev. W.H.G. Twining, who also preached at Melling Church in the evening.
