Congratulations to all the teams who took part in the District Knight Activity Competition held on 21 November around the Borwick and Priest Hutton area.
Postponed from the previous week owing to persistent heavy rain this time it was a dry but very cold evening weather-wise. Starting from Priest Hutton Memorial Hall the teams had to navigate around the area in the darkness and undertake various challenging tasks at bases along the way manned by leaders.
The teams demonstrated their scouting and hiking skills on such subjects as birds & animals, quizzes, senses, trees, weather, first aid, map & compass, knife & axe, knots & lashings, circus skills and fun.
Everyone apparently had an exciting and memorable time.
When all the points were added up winners of the Maltese Knight Trophy was a team from the 1st Overton (St. Helen’s) Troop. And winners of the Junior Knight Trophy was a team from the 16th Morecambe & Heysham (Church of the Ascension) Troop.
Trophies were presented by the Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts Fiona Wetton.
The Maltese Knight Trophy was originally presented to the 1st Forton (Duchy) Scout Group in the 1980’s by brother Scouts from the George Cross island with whom they had had connections. The Forton Group donated it to the Lonsdale District for annual competition. The Junior Knight was donated more recently in memory of Denis Musgrave who had been Group Scout Leader at Forton for many years.
Thanks to all the leaders and helpers for their assistance in ensuring the success of the event.
