SCOUTING NOTES
By kind permission of Mr. Crayston, twelve Cubmasters camped in the fields of Intack Farm, Nether Kellet, last week-end. A camp fire sing-song on Saturday evening was the prelude to a happy time. After camp prayers on Sunday morning a portion of “Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest” was enacted under ideal conditions in the woods. There was a “Cub’s Own” service in the early afternoon conducted by A.D.C. R.E. Wright and the campers then explored the countryside. Tea time was very welcome, and after the meal, Mr. Wright proposed a vote of thanks to those who had organised the camp, and leave-taking was made with sighs of regret that the week-end had passed all too quickly.
BADGE TESTS.
Leslie Pearson passed the Reader’s badge test in December 1936. Mention of this was made at the time because no such badge had been won for some years previously-by Rhodes late of the 13th., and now away from Lancaster. Pearson took up the idea of coaching fellow scouts of his troop and at a recent test P.L.’s Briggs, Kinnish, and Scouts Woods, Craddock and Williams, satisfied the City Librarian, Mr. G. M. Bland that their knowledge of the subject was sufficient to warrant the award of that badge. These boys are members of the 8th. Lancaster (Presbyterian) troop
The linguists of the 20th. Lancaster (Friends’) Scouts Buchanan, Crossland, C.S. and J. Wilkinson, Melling and Marshall, have satisfied their examiner Scoutmaster. S. G. Gunn of the 3rd. in the Interpreter badge examination (French).
In the first aid for First Class badge and Ambulance badge tests, Mr. A. E. Downing last week examined and passed P.L.’s Brown and Boak of the 21st., Second G. Ambler, and Scouts Nowell and P. Lund of the 13th. Brown’s achievement gains for him his First Class badge and All Round Cords.
Important in a different way is the first class swimming-part of First Class badge test-accomplished by Scouts Fairweather and Stafford of the 16th. Lancaster (St. Paul’s).
Akela from the Council Rock sends congratulations to Cubs Kenneth Nelson, Harold Leach, Geoffrey Parkinson and Edmund Wilkinson of the 21st. on having won their First Proficiency Star.
