Dear All,
Re: Appointment of a Group Scout Leader – 34th Lancaster
I am delighted to inform you that I have appointed Simon Lefever as the Group Scout Leader (GSL) at 34th Lancaster Scout Group. Simon will be known to many of you through his involvement as a parent and a member of the Group Executive Committee. Simon was a Scout as a young person and a Scout Leader in Essex before moving ‘up-north!’
I know Simon is excited about starting in this role and working with you all, he is enthusiastic about the potential 34th Lancaster has for growth and the impact the group can make on the local community. His professional background and this enthusiasm mean he is in a great place to lead the group into its 80th Anniversary celebrations and beyond.
I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank Derek Holt for the work he has done over the last few years in particular whilst the group has been without a Group Scout Leader, he has most certainly gone above and beyond the role of a Group President and I am grateful for that. I know Derek is now looking forward to stepping back now that a permanent GSL is in place.
34th Lancaster is a strong group, with an excellent group committee, committed leaders and is in a great position to move forward. To that end Simon and I have agreed some objectives to guide our work in the coming months:
• Review the training needs of all adults in the group, and support them through the appropriate training.
• Simon to complete his MSS (GSL) Training
• Hold regular Group Leaders meetings (separately from the Group Executive Committee)
• Create a group linking and group development plan.
• Identify opportunities for parental and adult recruitment and the recruitment of more young people.
I will be working with Simon in the coming weeks to discuss ways in which the District team can support in these areas. 34th Lancaster is in a strong position, with opportunities to grow your membership, recruit new adults and offer more opportunities to the young people of Ryelands, The Vale and Skerton .
The group has an exciting future and I’d like to remind you that the District are committed to supporting the group in any way that we can.
Finally, I’d like to thank you all, for everything that you do for Scouting. You make a difference!
Yours in Scouting,
Craig Dewar
District Commissioner
