Lancaster Guardian 16 April 1943:-
Boy Scout Troop In Tripoli
Signalman John Hodgson, R.N. (G.S.M. of the 21st Lancaster Sea Scouts) has written to District Commissioner J. Dodds Drummond, to say he has recently had an airgraph from his brother Tom, serving with the Eighth Army, who has taken a lively interest in Rovering and is connected with the 32nd Cairo Crew, and is also working in conjunction with the Tripoli Troop which they have just formed. “I am sure that you and the Lancaster Local Association will share with me the proud fact that he is one of the pioneers to get Scouting going so soon in the liberated territory,” the letter adds. “From the date of his letter this must have taken place within a week or so of the fall of Tripoli.”
Incidentally, Tom’s airgraph mentions that there are other Scouts from Lancaster there. Before joining up Tom Hodgson was Acting Assistant Scout master to the 6th Lancaster Troop.
The annual St. George’s Day service will take place on May 2nd, at St. Thomas’s Church at 3.15 p.m. Troops will assemble at Crosslands at 2.45 p.m.
