The 4th Morecambe Sea Scouts, under Scoutmaster F. Driver, have secured new quarters in the crypt of Bare Methodist Church. They have been accommodated in the basement of the schoolroom, formerly the chapel. The new premises will be opened next Thursday by the Mayor (Coun. M. J. Platten).

STILL UNDERGROUND
Sea Scouts New H.Q.
AFTER using the cellar of the old Bare Methodist School as headquarters for 15 years, the 4th Morecambe Sea Scouts have secured new premises but they will still meet underground. Their new H.Q., officially opened by the mayor, Coun. M. J. Platten on Thursday night is in the basement of Bare Methodist Church.
The Scouts have been busy since January and the room they use as the main hall has been decorated in scout colours (green and yellow) with scout badges on the walls. Smaller rooms have been furnished and decorated for the use of the various patrols. A workshop and games and instruction rooms are also provided.

The Mayor, greeted on arrival by a scout cheer, inspected the assembled scouts and cubs, then with a scout knife cut the tape at the entrance to the new H.Q. In spite of the pouring rain, there was a good assembly of scouts, guides, parents and friends.
The Mayor said the ceremony was a symbol of the great growth of this wonderful, idealistic but very practical movement.
After thanking the Mayor, Scoutmaster F. Driver expressed gratitude to the trustees of the church for the privilege of using the basement.
Wolf Cubs gave a demonstration of games and activities. Miss I. Tyler, cubmaster, was in charge.
Mr. J. Dodds Drummond, District Commissioner, opened an indoor ‘camp fire’ at which the scouts gave songs, musical items, yells and other turns. The 6th Morecambe Girl Guides, 4th Lancaster Scouts and Lancaster Sea Rangers contributed items.
The County Commissioner, Mr. T. W. Helme, was present.
Rev. R. F. Priestley M.C. gave a general vote of thanks. A collection brought in £12 for scout funds.
