New District Lead Volunteer

Following an open search process, I am delighted to inform you that Darren Phillips has accepted my offer to become the next Lead Volunteer for Lonsdale District Scouts.

Darren will be known to many of you as the current Volunteering Development Team Leader, Local Training Manager and as a Group Lead Volunteer. Darren has a range of experiences within Scouting and coupled with his professional experience, the District is in safe hands.

In the coming weeks, Darren will be focussing on two key areas:

  • Building his team, in-line with the new structure ready for September.
  • Meeting with all Group Lead Volunteers to identify opportunities and areas for development and support.

Darren will take over from Mandy Sweet on the 14th July but will be invested at the District AGM.

Mandy has been an outstanding District Commissioner for Lonsdale who has given everything to this role. Mandy has led with care, skill, compassion, determination and a laser-like focus on supporting young people to succeed. Mandy led the District through the pandemic and then through a strong recovery period thereafter. I am immensely grateful for Mandy’s leadership of Lonsdale and want to place on record, on behalf of the County, my enormous thanks. Thank you, Mandy!

Finally, I want to thank the search group, led by Tony Andrews, for their diligence and professionalism throughout this process. Lonsdale District has great foundations, and an abundance of talented volunteers. An exciting period lies ahead, and I know with your support, the District will continue to thrive under Darren’s leadership.
